  5. Art deco was really special because my grandparents came to Napier and celebrated with us. I enjoyed watching the spit fires, steam trains and carts but the highlight for me was the fashion show. My grandparents think that Napier is very special and unique in the way it celebrates a tragedy from so many years ago.

  13. I was gutted I had to work, but the photos tell a terrific story. To see so many tamariki celebrate a part of Napier's history by dressing up is a great, fun way to learn about a small part of what life was like for our grandparents and great grandparents!

  15. I'm glad you all had such a wonderful day! I really enjoyed having a whole school picnic and getting to dress up in Art Deco for the first time! I took my nephews and sister into town on Saturday to see the planes and cars. They were so excited when the planes roared over us! They also enjoyed the ride on the steam train and trailer. What a fantastic event. The pride of the Bay! I can't wait for next year...and I am going to be on the lookout for a sparkly dress!

  16. wow that was so much fun i had lunch with my Nana and Mum and i told my Nana all about how Art Deco was born it was so funny seeing heaps of girls dressed as boys and wearing mustaches and the story that Mrs paddock read to us was super helpful to make a picture in my head of how bad it was (i thought that the cows rolling down the hill was super funny)

  17. We celebrate Art Deco because in 1931 Napier had an earthquake and it was the style that all our buildings were rebuilt. I dressed up in a white top school shorts and school shoes. But there were many more people who put more of an effort in dressing up than me.

  19. I can't believe the day is over now I had so much fun and I'm excited to do it next year. At lunch I sat with all my friends and shared a bag of chips with them, but when I reached out to get one they were all gone! After school I me and my Mum we went to marine parade and sat in the garden looking at everyone dressed up. Then we moved closer to see the music on stage, and then afterwards when we were going home all the old cars were driving home as well and they all honked their horns!
