The Bug Man!

Today we have been incredibly lucky to have a visit from The Bug Man, Ruud Kleinpaste! We spent several hours talking about bugs and biodiversity, and even got to meet a few of his friends!!
What was Ruud's main message today?
What does he want us to understand and do?
Name three things you learned during the morning.
What questions do you still have?
What would you like to see us create/design/build at St Pats to make sustainable changes to our environment (bug life, plant life, recycle, reuse, renew)?
What do you think we need to get these projects off the ground? Do you know any experts would could help us?
What was the highlight of The Bug Man's visit?

  1. I really enjoyed having the Bug Man teaching us about all the different bugs and how they actually run the planet.
His main message i believe was that we think we run the planet but in all honesty Bugs and Insects do!
He wants us to understand how much we need to care about all the bugs and insects so we can live on for many centuries to come.
I learnt a few things from Ruud including sloths only eat 1 leaf a day! My favorite fact was that the biggest organism was actually a type of fungi. last fact was that if all the Honey Bees dropped dead in 5 years we would have nothing to eat. Think about the delicious food we have and try to imagine a life without that food.
I really want to know what fascinated him the most about all the different kinds of bugs.
If we create a garden for the Bees and pollination i would really like it to resemble Terraces. I believe it would look really exciting.
To get it off the ground we could do some Sausage sizzles and Mufti days.
I overall enjoyed the visit from Ruud Kleinpaste but the highlight for me was the sloths face when doing its business.

I learned that bees pollinate all of our food e.g: meat.
I also learned that sloth's only eat one thing a day and only go toilet once a week.
Now this is something I never knew it is that a daddy long legs kills the white tail spider now I thought it was the other way round funny isn't it :-)
my highlight from the bug man was when he garbed out the two weta's and put them on his shoulder and fore head.

  5. The three things that I learned today was that if a daddy long legs was in a fight with a white tail spider the winner would be the daddy long legs because he was the one to make the first move and mostly because the white tail was too scared. The second one was that all of the insects are connected in some way.The last one was how a sloth goes toilet and its not pretty. My highlights of the visit would be when he showed us all the photos of insects and some places of were he had gone to.If I had to ask a question it would be how long had he done this for.

  6. Wow the Bug man was great he also told us that bugs rule the world and look after them.
In st pats we could build maybe a green house or a biger garden and could have help by the Port and buy plants from Palmers

  7. The three things I learnt today was if the daddy long legs got into a fight with a white tale spider the spider that won was the daddy long legs this is how the daddy long legs won it made the first move that move was that he or she went up to the white tale and used its long legs to wrap it up then once it died it ate it.

My favorite fact was how the sloth does its business the way they do there business is every week they go to the bottom of the tree they are staying in and the hold on to the tree stump after it has dug its hole it done its business that's something I never heard the sloths face excprestions are really funny.

I think it would be a interesting idea to build our own white house and grow some veges and fruits and flowers for the bees.

Did you know that bees pollinate our food and also meat that is so amazing what will we do without bees I use to bee scared of bees know I know what they do so they are really interesting.

My funnyst part was when Mr ruud was exsplaning about the sloths with his funny facials.

  8. I loved having the Bug Man in. the first fact that i learnt was that bugs rule the world. the funniest one was how sloth do their business. And the scariest was if we didn't have bees we would all die in about 5 years.

  10. I really like the bug man. I learnt that if we didn't have honey bees that we would probly die in five years. the second thing I learnt was that birds are pretty much dinosours. the third thing I learnt was that sloths do their business in a weird day.
and I think we should make bird feeders around the school so that we can see more of are native birds.

  11. I learnt that bugs ruled the world, that the sloths only eat 1 leaf a day and go toilet once a week and that a daddy long legs would win against a whitetail because of its long legs!
I wonder what it felt like having bugs on your face.
The highlight of that morning to me would be seeing the sloths face while he was doing his business.

  12. I also think we should build a greenhouse and plant lots of different trees and plants and look at the all the different bugs we end up with

  13. I learnt that sloths only eat one leaf a day because the leaf is to poisonous for them to eat lots. Also I found out that praying mantis eats any meat. The last thing I learnt was that birds are the closet living creature to dinosaurs. I think we should build a green house so we can attract bees and other bugs

  15. WOW! the bug man was awesome ,I learnt lots of things from what he said. The three things I learnt were that wetas are nocturnal, the second fact I learnt was that if we don't honey bees polonation might be dead in five years. Finally number three that if you put a daddy long legs with a white tail theres a 50 50 chance that one of the spiders will win. I wonder what a weta crawling on your face would feel like?.

The three things that I learnt and thought were very interesting were.1) Fungi rules the world!.2) Daddy longlegs would win against a white tail.3) wetas are nocturnal. 20. The bug man wow. The three things I learned is that a daddy long legs can acually kill a whitetail, that if bees die we could die in 5 years and that wetas are nocturnal. We could maybe build a big flower and tree garden that will be great and each class could have a turn at water and planting flowers and many more. That would be awesome
