Our Finished Inventions!

Discovery Maths Week 10

This week we have been focused on
Fractions, Measurement and Money.
We have been finding out by exploring and being hands on.
The teachers have been very impressed by the children who have used their growth mindset to persevere, problem solve and ask questions.
Can you share 2 things you have learned this week?
Post a comment or tell someone in your family.

Invention Competition

In our NZ Read Aloud book this term, Barking Mad, Grandad is an inventor.  Unfortunately his invention went terribly wrong and he swapped bodies with his dog!
For the competition, against the other schools around NZ, we had to come up with a problem and then design an invention to solve that problem.
Please ask your child what their problem and solution are.
I have seen some amazing problem solving, sharing, creative and critical thinking this week!
We will post our finished inventions next week.

Idioms

Over the last two weeks we have been learning about the world of idioms!  The first two chapters of 'Barking Mad' are titled with idioms and so is the title of the book.  We thought we would search for more and learning about what they mean and when we might use them in our writing.  Have a look at this selection of idioms.

Large Ball Skills

We have been sharpening up our large ball skills!

Playground Games

We have been learning some new (or old) playground games.  We have been practising taking turns, speaking with kindness and having fun!
